Henri Dutilleux ´s (1916-2013) compositional style greatly reflected that of Maurice Ravel, Claude Debussy and Albert Roussel. Yet his unique, individual style did not go amiss, as in his Au Gré des Ondes , composed in 1946 and still performed to this day. Au Gré des Ondes , translating as Along the Waves, contains six movements, including an homage to Bach. Au Gré des Ondes reflects Dutilleux ´sstyle in its atonality and modality, use of pedal notes and subtle hints of the jazz style. As an unusual set of Piano pieces, Dutilleux ´s compilation adds pleasant variety to the pianists´ repertoire.
